#GivingTuesdayNow: Shadarobah Style

Until recently, I wasn’t familiar with Giving Tuesday. Although this isn’t a usual blog topic for me, I feel it is important to shed some light on this great cause. Giving Tuesday is an opportunity for individuals to give back in some way, whether it be through donations or volunteering. This day of giving usually takes place on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, which I think is pretty great. It’s ironic that the day after celebrating thankfulness, we head out to spend hundreds on items we deem necessary and “needed”. How fitting is it that Thanksgiving and Black Friday are followed with Giving Tuesday.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, I’m sure you’re well aware of the detrimental effects that Covid-19 has brought to our communities. While as a nurse I am still working, I’ve seen the effects of this pandemic in the lives of those around me. Because of Covid-19, there is a new movement for #GivingTuesdayNow. Rather than waiting for November to roll around, there is an opportunity for those able to give back this coming Tuesday, May 5th.

There are many great organizations for individuals to donate to. If you happen to be in Northeast Indiana, Shadarobah Horse Rescue is one of them! Shadarobah relies heavily on fundraising efforts and donations to provide necessary care to our rescues. During this time of pandemic and social distancing, the rescue has been unable to continue fundraising efforts as usual. Despite the damper on fundraising, our rescues still need to eat and receive medical care. Giving Tuesday [Now] is the perfect time to contribute in whatever way you’re able to! While Shadarobah always appreciates monetary and supply donations, the rescue always can use more volunteers as well! Shadarobah has recently made plans for expansion to meet the growing need of our rescues. The rescue hopes to add a few stalls for new intakes. Currently, the stalls at “home base” are occupied by some of our life long rescues, making it difficult to find room for new horses in need. Fortunately, Shadarobah has a wide network of wonderful foster homes that are usually able to help provide a soft landing.

So whether you feel inclined to donate your time, sharing the rescue’s posts, or donations of monetary or other sorts please consider participating in this critical event and help our herd (they don’t understand there’s a pandemic- they just want to be fed and loved).

To further your assistance past Giving Tuesday, there are other ways that you can help that won’t cost you a single dime! Shadarobah participates with Amazon Smiles and Kroger Card Community Cares programs as well. Links with more information on these opportunities are below. Don’t forget to head over to Shadarobah’s Facebook page and give them a thumbs up!
